Can white orchids be pruned?

In fact, it is best not to prune the white jasmine too frequently. You can use the method of picking the tender heads instead, which can also help prevent the branches from growing too long.

After-cut care

Because the center of the woody old branches of white orchid is composed of soft cotton-like substances, they easily absorb water and become infected with bacteria and rot. At the same time, the water from the cut ends will continue to seep down, causing the infected branches to gradually die from top to bottom.

Therefore, you must be careful when pruning. The first step is to make an oblique cut to make the cut smooth. The second step is to tie the cut tightly with plastic paper to isolate it from the outside world.

If these two steps are not handled properly, the cut ends will become dry, but be careful not to cut off the dry areas. You can use a lighter to grill and sterilize this area, then wrap it up to prevent the cut from coming into contact with any moisture, thus preventing further invasion of germs.

From this we can see that in order to keep the cut dry and reduce the possibility of bacterial infection, pruning must be done on a sunny day.

It is best to choose a small single-trunk tree for pruning white jasmine. When pruning white jasmine that has been planted for 1-2 years, the top of the main branch that is too high should be cut off to promote the growth of side branches. It is best to leave 5 to 8 side branches for each pot of seedlings, and branches that are longer than the side branches should also be taken into account.

White jasmine that has been planted for 3 to 5 years should be pruned into an oval crown more than one meter high, leaving a dozen side branches and a large number of branches.

Overgrown branches, dead branches, and diseased and insect-infested branches should be dealt with promptly every year. Cutting off the excess old leaves can reduce nutrient consumption and encourage the plant to produce more flowers.

Even though "flowers look the same year after year" and "pruning is different year after year", the fundamental principles of pruning are still very similar. As long as you grasp the rules, I believe that no matter what flower you have in your hands, it will have a "bright future."
