How to Spend the Summer with Geraniums

How to Spend the Summer with Geraniums

Summer methods

First: Do not let water accumulate in the geranium pots in the hot summer. The soil medium should be prepared so that it can dry as quickly as possible, such as peat soil + perlite + a small amount of wood ash. Try not to use soil media with too good water retention such as Cuiyun Jingtu.

Second: It has been said many times: the first thing geraniums need most in the hot summer is ventilation, the second is ventilation, and the third is ventilation.

Different environments, different methods

First of all, for flower lovers who have a yard, it is easy to achieve ventilation. Just make sure the geranium is in semi-shade and do not let the roots of the geranium be in a water-logged environment, and you will basically be safe and worry-free. Apart from the summer, geraniums are actually very easy to grow plants, so those who want to grow them outdoors during the day don’t need to read on.

Secondly, for flower lovers who live in an apartment building but have rooms that are open from north to south, due to good ventilation conditions, they can place all the geraniums on the north balcony ( preferably unenclosed ) to avoid sunlight and control the water and fertilizer, and basically they will not have to worry.

Finally, the worst situation for geraniums is living in an enclosed south-facing balcony with poor ventilation. It is easy for the stems to turn black and die completely. So be sure to pay attention to ventilation!

Summer Tips

1. Wooden basin ( cannot guarantee 100% summer protection, but 90% is OK )

2. Drill more holes in the plastic pot to allow air to circulate and allow the soil to dry quickly.

3. Use a small rattan basket, but be careful not to let the water flow everywhere.

4. There are several other methods. For example, one is to learn from the tube root irrigation method of Clematis, and another is to learn from the cotton strip water diversion method of African violets. In practice, summarize in autumn.
