How to sow Phlox

How to sow Phlox

Soil Preparation

The soil must be disinfected before planting. If conditions permit, you can use a sieve to sift the soil, clean out larger lumps of soil and stones, and then reconfigure the soil.

The planting potting soil can be exposed to the sun, or sprayed with a water solution of appropriate proportions such as potassium permanganate, formalin, and dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, and then dried before use.

Germination

It is best to process the seeds before planting to increase their germination rate. The simplest way is to soak it in warm water for 6 to 8 hours. You can add some rooting powder and sow it after germination.

sowing

After the seeds are processed, spread them evenly on the soil surface. Avoid spreading them too densely to avoid affecting the germination rate of the seeds.

Then cover the soil surface with a 3 mm layer of sandy soil, but don't cover it with clods, which are too heavy. Water thoroughly and cover with plastic wrap to keep moisture. Move it to the sun. If you see the plastic film is covered with water vapor, you can open it for ventilation. It will germinate in about 7 to 10 days.

Maintenance

The best germination temperature for Phlox seedlings is 20~22℃. The soil temperature also has a great influence on the seeds, so the temperature cannot be too low. After the seedlings emerge, the temperature can be appropriately lowered to 15℃. A slightly lower temperature can form a good plant shape and promote its growth.

After germination, the seedlings must be carefully managed, with attention paid to controlling water and supplementing light to prevent the seedlings from growing too tall. When the seedlings grow to 6-7 cm, they can be transplanted. Note that young Phlox seedlings cannot tolerate transplanting, so do not toss them around repeatedly and make sure the roots are intact when transplanting.
