Variety selectionIf you want Gloxinia to bloom more, when choosing seeds, you should choose those imported hybrid first-generation high-quality varieties that bloom luxuriantly, have a short and sturdy plant shape, strong resistance, and are easy to maintain. Single-petal varieties bloom more than double-petal varieties. Harvesting seedsIt is difficult for African violets to self-pollinate, so artificial pollination is required to obtain high-quality seeds. During the flowering period of Gloxinia, collect the pollen from the stamens and apply it to the stigma of the pistil with a brush. The seeds will mature about 35 days after pollination. Remove the seeds and dry them for storage. Seeding processBefore sowing, soak the seeds in water for 24 hours to encourage them to germinate early. The best potting soil is a mixture of leaf mold, garden soil and fine sand. After leveling the soil, sprinkle the seeds evenly, soak the pot in shallow water, take it out, cover it with glass, place it in semi-shade, and maintain humidity conditions of 18-20℃. Seedlings will emerge in about 10 days, and then let the African violet gradually see the sun, but avoid direct sunlight, spray frequently, maintain humidity, and apply a thin layer of cake fertilizer water every 10 days or so. It will usually bloom about 6 months after sowing. |
