1. What is

Okra, also known as yellow okra and lady's horn, is an annual herb of the genus Amblythrum in the Malvaceae family. It usually blooms between May and September and prefers warm conditions. It is a vegetable with high edible value and is also known as the king of vegetables. Its origin is in India. It is resistant to dryness and heat and has a short growth cycle. It is now widely cultivated and has also been introduced for cultivation in provinces such as Shandong, Hebei, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan, Yunnan, and Guangdong in my country.

2. Growth habits

1. Temperature: It likes warm environment and is not cold-resistant. The suitable temperature for seed germination and growth is between 25-30 degrees. Once the monthly average temperature is lower than 17 degrees, it will affect flowering and fruiting. The fruit setting rate is highest and the fruit develops quickly when the temperature is between 26-28 degrees.

2. Water: It is drought-resistant and moisture-resistant, but afraid of waterlogging. Therefore, during management, attention should be paid to the amount of watering and no water should be accumulated. Drainage is necessary during the rainy season. Excessive humidity will weaken the growth of plants and the seedlings will be easily infected with damping-off disease.

3. Light: It is sensitive to light, likes sufficient light, and requires a certain length of light exposure. Therefore, when planting, you should choose a sunny plot and provide more ventilation.
