How to sow Globe amaranth

How to sow Globe amaranth

Globe amaranth seedlings grow slowly and are usually sown indoors in March at a temperature of around 20°C. The seeds of Globe amaranth are covered with a layer of white cilia, and the germination is slow. Special treatment is required when sowing:

Seed Soaking

Find a shallow container, place the seeds in it, and pour water in to just cover the seeds. Soak in cold water for 2 days or warm water for one day. The purpose of soaking seeds is to soften the seed coat and increase the germination rate.

Seed germination

After soaking the seeds, wrap them in gauze and place them in a shallow basin, or you can use a paper towel. Water it 1 to 2 times a day and place it in a warm place with scattered light. After two weeks, you will see small white sprouts and you can start sowing.

Sowing method

After germination, sow the seeds in pots, cover with shallow soil, and then cover with glass to keep warm and moist.

After all the seedlings have grown, remove the weak ones. The seedlings of Globe amaranth grow slowly, but their growth will accelerate after June. When the seedlings grow 7 to 8 leaves, move them to other pots or containers.

Post-sowing care

Do not water or fertilize too much during the growth period, otherwise it will cause the stems and leaves to grow too long and the flowers to be sparse. When it is hot in summer, pay attention to replenishing water. You can keep the flower pots outdoors and be careful to protect them from rain.

In order to dwarf the plant, the top of the plant needs to be pinched once during the seedling stage, and the remaining flowers should be cut off in time after the flowers fade to encourage the sprouting of new branches so that it can bloom again.
