Spring care of marigolds

March to April every spring is the best time to sow marigolds.

Marigolds are sown in spring and will generally germinate a week after sowing. When the seedlings grow 5 to 7 leaves and are about 10 cm tall, they can be transplanted or potted. Keep the soil moist, but don't water too much, provide sufficient sunlight, and increase air circulation to give the marigold more ventilation.

During the growth period of marigolds, you can pinch the tips several times. It can encourage marigolds to sprout new branches and produce more flowers.

Summer care of marigolds

Marigolds prefer a warm, humid and sunny environment. In the hot summer weather with strong sunlight, they cannot be too shaded, which will cause the plants to grow too tall and lack flowering. The temperature is high in summer and the evaporation is large, so marigolds have a greater demand for water. They should be watered frequently to keep the soil in the pot moist.

Summer is the main flowering period of marigolds. Keeping the temperature slightly lower during the flowering period can extend the flowering period. After the flowers fade, cut off the remaining branches, strengthen water and fertilizer management, and they can bloom again.

In summer, marigolds can also be propagated by cuttings.

Marigolds can continue to bloom into autumn, but as autumn gradually gets cooler, the number of marigold flowers will decrease, so you should reduce watering and fertilizing. Move it to a sunny enclosed balcony to extend the flowering period. The temperature will drop further in late autumn. When the temperature drops below 10℃, the growth of marigold will slow down.

Winter care of marigolds

After the flowers fade in autumn and as the temperature gradually drops, the marigolds slowly begin to stop growing. In the cold winter, when the temperature drops below 5℃, the marigolds slowly wither and wait to sprout in the spring of next year.
