How to propagate red cardinal coral

How to propagate red cardinal coral

Life habits of red cardinal coral

Cardinal coral is native to the West Indies in Central America. It likes to live in warm places with good ventilation and sufficient but not strong sunlight. The soil needs to be loose and fertile with good drainage. It can also adapt to relatively high temperature and semi-shady environments, and has strong vitality.

How to propagate red cardinal coral

Seed propagation

Select high-quality seeds. It is recommended to use seeds harvested in the same year. The sowing environment should be: temperature 20~30℃, relative air humidity 75~85%, and sufficient light.

Cutting propagation

Cut two or three stems about eight centimeters long, wait until the cuts dry and shrink, then insert them into the substrate. Do not water them for the time being, place them in a semi-shaded place, and water them once two days after cuttings. If the cardinal coral encounters low temperatures after cuttings, timely insulation measures should be taken and the flower pots used for cuttings should be wrapped with film; if high temperatures are unfortunately encountered, timely cooling measures should be taken to shade the cuttings. To ensure appropriate humidity, spray the cuttings when the temperature is high on sunny days to reduce water evaporation.

Layering propagation

Select healthy and strong branches from mature cardinal corals, and peel off a circle of bark about 15 to 30 centimeters below the top. The width of the wound should be about 1 centimeter, and the depth should just be enough to peel off the epidermis. Then use scissors to cut a piece of film, the size of which is 10~20 cm long and 5~8 cm wide, put some wet soil on it, wrap the place where the bark was peeled off with the film, and pierce the upper and lower ends of the film, and the middle should be bulging. Roots will form in about 4 to 6 weeks. After rooting, cut off the roots next to the branches, so that a new plant will grow.

The above is the propagation method of cardinal coral!
