How to make the crabapple flowers colorful

Timely pruning of crabapple

Timely pruning helps the growth and flowering of crabapple.

In early spring every year, prune the crabapple before it sprouts, cut off the dense, long and thin branches of the crabapple, and remove the dead and diseased branches. Pruning is beneficial for the ventilation and light transmission of the crabapple plants and reduces diseases and pests.

For older plants of the Chinese Crabapple, old branches need to be renewed. In early spring, the main branches with fewer branches should be pruned short. After germination, the strong branches should be retained and the weak branches should be cut off. It will bloom after about a year of cultivation.

Water and fertilizer management of Malus chinensis

Only with sufficient water and fertilizer can the crabapple bloom well, but if there is too much water and fertilizer, the plant will grow too tall and affect flowering. Generally, before germination in early spring and after leaf fall in autumn, you need to apply some decomposed organic fertilizer near the roots of the crabapple and water it thoroughly. Be careful not to water the mature plants too much, otherwise the leaves will turn yellow. Watering does not need to be too frequent. You can water 2-3 times in spring, 1-2 times in summer and autumn, and water less in winter, but you can also water it. Watering once after winter begins.

The crabapple must be picked in time

After the flowers fade, the crabapple will grow fruits, and the growth of these fruits will consume a lot of nutrients. In order to ensure better flowering next year, it is necessary to pick the young fruits of the crabapple in time to increase the number of flowers.

Pest control of Malus chinensis

The crabapple tree is more susceptible to attacks by pests such as aphids, scale insects, longhorn beetles, and red spiders, which can affect the growth, flowering and fruiting of the plant, and require timely spraying of pesticides for prevention and control.
