Humidity, temperature and light

The relative humidity of the air is required to be between 50% and 70%. If it is too low, the upper leaves will become dull and the lower leaves will turn yellow .

Bird of paradise is afraid of severe cold, so it will stop growing when the ambient temperature is below 8℃.

The bird of paradise plant has a strong ability to adapt to light. During the cultivation process, after keeping it in a bright light place indoors for a period of time, move it to a shaded place outdoors (provided that the temperature is not too low) for a period of time. This alternating maintenance method is the best.

Reproduction method

1. Layering

Select a strong branch and peel off the bark in a circle about 15 to 30 cm below the top, with the depth just enough to peel off the epidermis and the width of the wound being 1 cm. Take a piece of film that is 5 to 8 cm wide and 10 to 20 cm long, spread some wet soil on it, with the soil close to the branches, wrap it around the peeled part, and tie the upper and lower ends of the film tightly to make the middle slightly bulge. The rooting period is four to six weeks, after which the branch and root system are cut off to form a new plant.

2. Cutting method

When carrying out cuttings, that is, during the vigorous growth period of the plant from late spring to early autumn , cut the thick branches grown in the current year as cuttings. Cut off the branches, take the strongest part, and cut out a 5 to 15 cm long section with more than 3 leaf nodes. Things to note when cutting cuttings: the upper cut should be cut flat about 1 cm above the top leaf node, and the lower cut should be cut obliquely about 0.5 cm below the bottom leaf node. Both the upper and lower cuts should be smooth. After the temperature rises in early spring, hard branch cuttings can be carried out. The pruning method can refer to the soft branch cuttings.
