How to advance the flowering period of Schlumbergera cactus

Christmas cactus is a short-day flower. Under long-day conditions, the differentiation of flower buds will be affected. Therefore, if you want to advance the flowering period of Christmas cactus, for example, if you want it to bloom during National Day, you need to make some adjustments to the light.

To promote flowering of Christmas cactus, the main thing is to reduce the lighting time. The specific method is to shade the Christmas cactus in July or August. During the day, you can cover the Christmas cactus plant with black cloth after 4 pm. At night, be careful not to place it in a place with artificial light to reduce the sunlight time. In late September, small flower buds will grow at the top of the stem nodes of the Christmas cactus plant. Continue to provide shade until the end of September, and the Christmas cactus will bloom in October.

In addition, the temperature also needs to be controlled. Because Christmas cactus is sensitive to temperature and grows better between 16℃ and 28℃, when controlling the flowering period, the temperature should not be lower than 5℃ or too high, otherwise the flower buds cannot differentiate well.

How to delay the flowering period of Christmas cactus

The natural flowering period of Christmas cactus can also be delayed, usually to March.

If the flower buds have formed and are about to bloom, the temperature can be controlled at around 5°C. Under low temperature conditions, the flowers can be delayed in opening. If the flower buds are relatively small at this time, you can increase the temperature appropriately to accelerate the opening of the flower buds. This way the flowering period of the line can be controlled.
