How to make a rose arch with climbing roses

How to make a rose arch with climbing roses

Selection of climbing rose arches

Before making a climbing rose arch, you first need to choose a suitable arch. The arch can be made of iron or wood. Flower lovers can also make it themselves, but one thing to note is that it must be sturdy and durable. Climbing roses grow relatively fast and can quickly cover the entire arch, so what is needed is an arch that can bear the weight of the climbing roses.

Cultivation of climbing roses

After choosing the arch, you need to start planting climbing roses. After planting, you need to carry out reasonable maintenance so that they can grow and achieve the purpose of climbing.

Climbing roses grow relatively vigorously. Their characteristics are that they are afraid of waterlogging and are not drought-tolerant. When planting, you must pay attention to drainage measures, set up a drainage layer, pad it with sand or stones, and make sure the soil is breathable.

As for fertilization, you can apply liquid fertilizer rich in multiple elements once a month. You can apply some phosphorus fertilizer or potassium fertilizer before flowering to make the flowering better.

In addition, it is necessary to prevent and control diseases and pests, spray some fungicides frequently, and respond promptly when encountering diseases and pests.

Pruning and pulling climbing roses

In addition to daily maintenance, the most important step when making an arch with climbing roses is pruning and pulling.

There are two main purposes of pruning: one is to make the climbing rose grow healthily, which requires pruning away dead branches, diseased branches and weak branches; the other is to ensure that the climbing rose has a good plant shape so that it is ornamental, so light pruning is required after flowering, and dense branches need to be pruned.

Traction is the artificial binding, which can be carried out when the branches of climbing roses grow to a certain length, usually in December to January. When pulling, let the branches of climbing roses climb along the arch. Be careful not to overlap the branches as much as possible. It is best to pull them in a spiral manner.
