The best time to prune Hibiscus is before budding and after flowering in spring. The dead branches, weak branches, and inner branches of the potted plants can be cut off to ensure that the Hibiscus has good ventilation and light transmission. During the growing season, it is necessary to ensure that the hibiscus flower has sufficient water. The hibiscus flower requires fertile and loose potting soil to ensure good drainage and air permeability to meet its growth needs. During the growing period, be careful not to let the hibiscus grow too tall to encourage the hibiscus to sprout side branches and form a fuller shape.

In the cold northern regions, when winter comes, hibiscus needs to be moved indoors to overwinter, maintaining a temperature of 0 to 10℃ to ensure its good dormancy.

You can cut off some branches before wintering (the cut branches can be used for reproduction), and then cover them with soil to allow them to overwinter safely. When the covering is removed in the spring of the following year, new branches and leaves will sprout, and they will grow vigorously and bloom in autumn.

Precautions

Before pruning your hibiscus, make sure your pruning shears are sharp and clean, preferably with an alcohol-based disinfectant gel to prevent the effects of disease from spreading through the roots. If anything, pruning should be done by cutting back to about one-third, causing new growth to emerge from at least two or three nodes. The cut should be made just above the node, leaving about 0.6 cm in length. Remove all weak, diseased, dead or growing growth, as well as crossing or leggy branches. Branches that are growing toward the center of the device should also be removed.

Protection work

When pruning hibiscus flowers, large wounds may be caused. The wounds need to be sealed in time to prevent damage from pests and diseases and cracking, and to protect the wounds from growing and healing quickly. Apply some organic fertilizer in the potted plants every winter. After fertilizing, water and cover the soil in time to strengthen the branches and enhance resistance.
