How to care for Strelitzia before it blooms

How to care for Strelitzia before it blooms

Choose the right container and medium

The fleshy roots of Strelitzia reginae are very thick, so the container needs to be a larger and deeper clay pot, and the medium needs to be fertile soil with good drainage and air permeability.

Select temperature and light

Strelitzia reginae is best grown at a temperature of 15-25°C. The temperature needs to be slightly lower before flowering to facilitate the formation of flower buds. Strelitzia is a light-loving plant and needs to be given sufficient light conditions when cultivated. Strelitzia reginae is not cold-resistant and requires suitable temperature during its growth process, which should be maintained at 18℃-24℃ from March to October and 13℃-18℃ for the rest of the time. The light should be evenly distributed, neither too much sunlight nor too little light.

Requires adequate water and moderate fertilizer

Strelitzia reginae prefers light fertilizer and thin fertilizer. It is best to use diluted liquid fertilizer. It is enough to fertilize once every two weeks. Strelitzia reginae has very large and fleshy rhizomes, so when watering, you need to meet the needs of the rhizomes. Generally, it is determined according to the dryness and wetness of the potting soil. Watering once a week or so is enough. Strelitzia needs sufficient water during its growth period, but there should be no stagnant water.

Other considerations

After the Strelitzia is formed, the pot needs to be changed every two years, so it should not be planted too deep.

The above are the key points to pay attention to when caring for Strelitzia before it blooms. I wish all my friends can enjoy the unique little flowers of Strelitzia.
