How to prolong the flowering period of Strelitzia reginae

How to prolong the flowering period of Strelitzia reginae

Strelitzia flowering period

If left to grow freely, Strelitzia reginae usually blooms in winter and spring. However, if cultivated properly, it can bloom continuously all year round. Generally, each flower can bloom for about a month. If the flowers in the pot bloom sequentially, the flowering period can be as long as two months.

How to prolong the flowering period of Strelitzia reginae

Plenty of sunlight

Strelitzia reginae loves sunlight very much, but at the same time needs to be protected from direct summer sunlight. Insufficient light is not conducive to the growth of flower buds, while excessive light will cause the flowers to wilt.

Constant temperature

Keep the temperature between 23℃-25℃, and the day and night temperatures between 10℃ and 18℃. Too high temperature will speed up the metabolism of flowers. If the ambient temperature changes too much, the flowering period will be shortened.

Controlled fertilization

After the flower buds appear, no further fertilization should be done. The nutrients in the fertilizer will speed up the growth of the flowers and cause them to age faster.

Flowers cannot be freed from water. The water on the flowers will make them easy to rot, and the corolla should not be touched often with your hands.

It is not difficult to cultivate Strelitzia reginae, but it does take some effort if you want to extend its flowering period. I wish my friends can harvest a pot of Strelitzia that blooms all year round.
