The Belgian rabbit, also known as the giant gray rabbit and the Flemish giant rabbit, is a large meat breed. This rabbit is large in size, gains weight quickly, has a high slaughter rate, and has delicious meat. It is one of the preferred breeds for meat rabbit farming . So what are the breeding methods for Belgian meat rabbits? Let’s learn more about it below. 1. Rabbit house construction The rabbit house should be built in a place with high terrain, sheltered from the wind, facing the sun and with good drainage. The interior of the rabbit house should be kept dry, well ventilated, and have appropriate insulation measures. The specifications of the rabbit cage should be designed according to the body length of the meat rabbit, generally 2.0 to 3.0 times the body length of the meat rabbit is appropriate. 2. Environmental Control First of all, the temperature should be controlled. The best temperature in the initial stage is 24℃. As the digestive enzyme system improves, the suitable temperature is 24-30℃ at 42-46 days of age, and 18~24℃ at 60-80 days of age. Humidity needs to be maintained between 60%-65%, avoiding excessive moisture or dryness to maintain the best fattening environment. At the same time, good ventilation is essential for the rabbit house, and the air must be kept clean and fresh. 3. Feeding tips Belgian rabbits have a wide range of diets and can eat a variety of green fodder and vegetables , such as green fodder grass, sweet potato vines, peanut vines , etc. In addition, a fixed amount of concentrated feed is required every day, about 70 grams per rabbit. The concentrated feed consists of 40% grain and bran each, 15% bean cake, and 3% fish meal. Salt, trace elements and minerals also need to be added. As for the form of feed, it can be granular or crushed and added with water. At the same time, make sure the rabbits have enough clean drinking water. 4. Health inspection Clean the rabbit house regularly and keep the rabbit cages clean to prevent the occurrence and spread of diseases. At the same time, check the health status of Belgian meat rabbits regularly, pay attention to their mental state, appetite and feces, and discover and deal with health problems in time. 5. Deworming and epidemic prevention During the fattening process of Belgian meat rabbits, attention should be paid to deworming and vaccination. Generally, 100 mg of albendazole per kilogram of body weight is fed to deworm rabbits, and 1 ml of the combined vaccine of rabbit plague and Pasteurella multocida is injected into each fattening rabbit. 6. Timely release of pigs Normally, when meat rabbits reach about 90 days of age and their weight increases to more than 2.5 kg, they can be considered for slaughter. For large breeds of meat rabbits, such as Belgian rabbits, the recommended market weight is around 3 kg. In general, the breeding of Belgian meat rabbits is a systematic project, which requires breeders to carry out scientific management in many aspects such as environmental control, feed feeding, hygiene and epidemic prevention. This is the only way to effectively improve the breeding efficiency and economic benefits of Belgian meat rabbits.
