1. Begonia cultivation method

1. Soil

Begonia is extremely cold-resistant and drought-resistant, has strong adaptability, and can grow in dry sunny land and saline-alkali land . It prefers deep, loose, well-drained and breathable sandy soil.

2. Temperature and light

The best growth temperature for Begonia is between 18-20 degrees. Although Begonia is cold-resistant and can grow below zero degrees, it is better to keep it above 10 degrees in the greenhouse. Begonia likes sunlight and is not shade-tolerant. It needs to be placed in a sunny place. Pay attention to shading when the sunlight is strong in summer. It is best to place it in a sunny and sheltered place in winter.

3. Moisture

Begonias are relatively drought-resistant. The humidity can be determined according to the growth conditions of the begonias. In summer, the soil in the pot should be kept moist, and in winter, the soil in the pot should be slightly dry. Spray the leaves and the environment with clean water every seven days to increase the humidity.

4. Fertilization

During the growing period, apply fertilizer mainly composed of compound fertilizer to supplement nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium for the plants. Apply about 3 to 4 times a month to promote rapid growth of branches and leaves. From March to May, mainly apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and apply potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution about three times a month to promote more and brighter flowering of the plants.

5. Pruning

The growth of crabapple flowers requires supports made of thin bamboo or other materials to prevent the plants from falling over. When pruning, just cut off weak branches, overlapping branches, diseased and insect-infested branches, and residual roots. If the crabapple plants that have been flowering for two or three years are too tall, they need to be pruned back.

2. Precautions for Begonia cultivation

Do not allow water to accumulate in the crabapple pot, otherwise it will easily cause root rot; crabapple does not suffer from many diseases and pests, the main pest is leaf roller, which is usually removed manually. If the situation is too serious, it can be sprayed with diluted dimethoate solution for prevention and control; in winter, pay attention to sheltering the crabapple from the wind, as it will easily fall over if the wind is too strong; pay attention to picking the leaves if the crabapple leaves are too dense, otherwise it will not only affect the growth of the crabapple, but also cause mildew.
