How to deal with the dormancy of Gloxinia

How to deal with the dormancy of Gloxinia

Care methods

Gloxinia is suitable for growing in fertile soil and can adapt well to acidic soil. During the growth period, it needs to be in a warm and humid environment and avoid strong light exposure. Its flowers will bloom when the temperature is around 20 degrees in summer, and the flowers are bright and beautiful. In winter, Gloxinia will enter a dormant period, at which time it will stop growing and we need to reduce the amount of watering it.

Fertilizer and water management

The growth of Gloxinia cannot be separated from water and fertilizer. Proper fertilization can make it grow better and faster. In the hot summer weather, it needs to be watered several times a day to ensure the moisture of the soil. At the same time, we can also spray water mist around it to lower the temperature of the surrounding environment. Liquid fertilizer can be applied along with each watering to supplement the nutrients needed for summer growth. During the winter dormancy period, stop fertilizing the African violet and keep the soil relatively dry to facilitate overwintering.

Ventilation and lighting

Gloxinia is a flower that likes to grow in cool places. When exposed to sunlight in the summer, it is necessary to provide shade to avoid sunburn of the branches and leaves. At the same time, pay attention to the ventilation of Gloxinia in summer. Shading can prevent the heat from causing it to stop growing. In winter, African violets can receive sunlight for a long time, which can promote plant growth and effectively help the plants survive the winter.
