How to keep Impatiens safely through the winter? This is easy and healthy!

Winter management of Impatiens

Winter performance

Impatiens is very intolerant of cold. Generally, its seeds mature in autumn, and then the whole plant begins to wither gradually. Once winter comes, it naturally stops growing completely, and the above-ground part also appears to be dead. In other words, Impatiens enters a hibernation period in order to protect itself.

Lighting Management

Impatiens likes light and is suitable for a warm environment. Whether it is planted in an indoor pot or in the courtyard, it is best to choose a sunny location. In winter, don't think that your Impatiens no longer needs care and place it and the flowerpot in a dark place. This is wrong. Even in the dormant period, you must ensure that the Impatiens has sufficient light, so that when winter passes and spring comes, the Impatiens will still sprout and bloom.

Moisture Management

Impatiens has a very tenacious vitality and flower lovers do not need to spend too much time on daily management. However, one thing you need to pay special attention to in winter. Although the light must be sufficient as in other seasons, the same does not apply to water. Because the growth of Impatiens balsamina stops during the hibernation period and the above-ground part completely withers, only the roots need a small amount of water. Therefore, flower lovers must remember not to water it too much. Either do not water it at all, or only water it in small amounts when the soil in the flowerpot is extremely dry.

Precautions

Impatiens grown outdoors will completely wither in the winter, but the seeds that fall underneath may germinate on their own in the spring of the following year!
