How to propagate succulents

How to propagate succulents

1. Planting

Sowing is usually carried out in spring. Prepare a special seedling pot, plant the seeds in it, cover it with plastic film, and poke a few holes on it to keep warm and allow air to flow. In addition, different varieties of succulents often have different planting methods, which need to be implemented according to specific circumstances. It should be noted that some varieties can only bloom once in their lifetime and will wither after blooming, so they need to collect seeds and sow them in time. You can also cut the flower stems off to prevent them from flowering.

2. Cutting

Succulents are often propagated by cuttings, which grows fast, blooms easily, and maintains the original characteristics of the variety. For most plants with fleshy leaves, you can cut the entire leaf, put it in a dry and ventilated place, wait for the wound to shrink, and then insert it into the substrate. If it is a succulent with fleshy stems, such as cacti, you need to cut off the entire stem node and wait until the wound is dry before inserting it.

3. Division

Some succulents grow easily in groups, so they can also be propagated by division. After loosening the soil appropriately, take the plant out of the pot, cut off its side buds with a blade, and place it in a ventilated place together with the mother plant, waiting for the wound to become infected. Then prepare loose and fertile soil, and plant the mother plant and side buds separately. If the side buds have no roots, they can be planted in slightly moist soil, which can promote the growth of the root system.
