How to propagate wild peony

How to propagate wild peony

1. Propagation by seeding

Wild peony can be propagated by seeds. Generally, we choose to sow when spring comes, from March to April, because the temperature at this time is the most suitable. We mix its seeds with grass or fine soil, and then spread them evenly on the seedbed, and then cover them with some fine soil, about 2 cm, and then cover them with grass and water them. If the temperature is above 25 degrees, the seedlings will basically start to emerge in about 20 days. After they emerge, you need to remove the grass on them. When the seedlings grow to about 15 centimeters, start digging holes according to the distance between plants in each row, and plant three plants in each hole.

2. Propagation by cuttings

Selection of cuttings: This method of reproduction is actually asexual reproduction. We can cut some relatively strong, full, disease-free and insect-free branches from the crown of its mother tree or the outside of the upper part, leave half of the leaves on the top, cut off all the other leaves, and trim the end into a horseshoe shape.

Cutting medium: At this time, it is generally required to choose a medium that is relatively loose, breathable and rich in organic matter, so as to improve its survival rate. Generally, we can choose some garden soil, nutrients or other loose substrates.

Cuttings: Generally start in spring and autumn. Because it is easy to take root, you cannot use rooting medicine. The depth of cuttings should be about two to three centimeters. Insert the cuttings into the substrate in the nutrient bag and gently firm it and water it thoroughly.

Management after cutting: After cutting, a layer of shade net needs to be covered. This will keep the substrate moist. It is also necessary to remove some weeds in time and pay attention to the harm of some diseases and insects and carry out timely prevention and control. In addition, add some fertilizer appropriately. Just pay attention to drainage in spring and drought prevention in autumn.
