How to plant lotus leaves

How to plant lotus leaves

Planting location

It is best to plant water lilies directly in the soil outdoors, but most people living in cities do not have land to grow flowers, so they have no choice but to plant them in pots. If they are planted in pots, they must be planted as large as possible.

If conditions permit, it would be best to cultivate it on land. The selection of site is particularly important. Fertile sandy soil or land rich in humus is the best. Soft and moist soil is especially suitable for the growth of water lily. Secondly, the selected plot of land should preferably have a water source for convenient irrigation. Finally, be sure to choose a ventilated, semi-shaded plot of land, preferably a shady slope. If you are planting it in a pot, add more fertilizer to the bottom of the pot.

After selecting a good planting site, you need to plow the soil in the fall, turning the soil layer to a depth of about 25cm. After turning it over, pay attention to fertilizing. It is best to use mature soil manure or compost. Before planting, the land needs to be plowed again and ditches need to be made around the plots for drainage.

Planting method

sowing

If you use seeds for planting, you need to collect the seeds in August or September of the previous year. Remove the skin of the water lily fruit and select the plump seeds for preservation. Pay attention to keeping warm after planting, generally just cover the soil surface with a layer of hay.

Division

When planting using the division method, the old roots of the water lily should be dug out of the soil in February or March, and then divided into several small pieces of about 13 cm. The separated small rhizomes should then be planted into the soil. Note that enough space should be left between plants, and the row spacing should be at least 30 cm. The water lily is a plant that is relatively afraid of drought, so it needs to be watered sufficiently after planting. Transplants are available from April through November.
