How to plant allium seeds

How to plant allium seeds

1. Seed Collection

When there is a lot of rain in the summer, the seeds begin to mature in late July and can be picked. Store the seeds in a cool, dry place. Because it needs to be sown in autumn, it must be stored in a low temperature environment first. It can be stored in the fresh-keeping layer of the refrigerator, with the temperature controlled at around 6 degrees, and it can be prepared for sowing in autumn.

2. Sowing Method

1. In autumn, from mid-September to late October, prepare for sowing. The emergence rate of Allium grandiflorum seeds is relatively good, and the ability to break through the soil is good. There is no strict selection of soil types, and loess and clay are both acceptable. However, the emergence rate in sandy soil may not be ideal. Here, choose a large area of sunny, breathable and loose garden soil, turn the soil first and keep the soil surface level. Only four to five kilograms of seeds are needed per acre.

2. Use the broadcasting method. Wet the fine sand, stir it with the seeds, mix evenly, and sow the seeds on the soil surface without burying them too deep. Because of the choice of sowing method, it is best not to operate in windy weather.

3. After sprinkling, cover it with a thin layer of soil, and use your hands to gather the surrounding soil. The final thickness should not exceed 4 cm. Then irrigate, but do not use water directly to avoid washing away the seeds. It will take about a week to ten days for the seeds to sprout.

3. Post-management

1. When the young shoots develop into seedlings, no special management is required because this variety basically has no major diseases.

2. Careful management is required before the flowers bloom, adding 50 to 60 kilograms of fertilizer. This can extend the flowering period, increase the number of flowers, and make them more ornamental.

3. Keep the soil moist and avoid water accumulation. When the soil becomes dry, add water in time. When cultivating in the nursery, pay attention to sufficient light and provide appropriate shade in summer. Don't add fertilizer after the flowers bloom.
