How to pot the broad-leaved red orchid

How to pot the broad-leaved red orchid

1. Time for potting

Generally, the time for potting is from March to April in spring or from October to November in autumn. The temperature and weather in these two seasons are more suitable, and it can survive better.

2. Choice of pot

When choosing a pot, it is better to choose those with a smaller mouth, a higher height, and a larger bottom hole.

If it is a wild seedling that has just been dug up, it needs to be transplanted into a clay pot so that the soil will dry more easily, have better air permeability, and be easier to take root. Wait 2 to 3 years and then move it to a purple clay pot or porcelain pot.

3. Potting method

Method 1: After preparing the planting material, you can hold the plant upside down, place it under the faucet and start to rinse it slowly. Be careful not to use too strong a water pressure to avoid damaging the roots and leaves.

Then we can use our thumb and index finger to grab its head, press our little finger against the edge of the pot, and use bamboo chopsticks to fix the roots. When placing it in the pot, try not to let its roots touch the inner wall of the pot.

Then pour some bean-sized mixed gravel into the basin, but not too much, just a little will do.

Finally, pour the planting material in and compact it thoroughly. After planting, the planting material only needs to reach a point slightly higher than the middle of the pot.

Method 2: We can use a clay pot and fill it with some broken tiles to facilitate drainage. If you use a purple clay pot, you must cover the bottom of the pot with some perforated nylon gauze.

Before planting, you should put some coarse stones first, and then put the broad-leaved red orchid in. When potting, make sure the roots are spread out and not curled. The older plants should also be moved to the side and the new ones should be placed in the middle to help them sprout new seedlings.

When planting, hold the plant with your left hand, add a little soil with your right hand, and then lift it up slightly. Add soil while shaking the pot to ensure that the soil and roots are in close contact with each other. Finally, compact the soil around the roots.

Remember to place it in a relatively cool place.
