How to breed Rhododendron waxleaf

How to breed Rhododendron waxleaf

1. Planting

Planting seeds is one of the ways she has passed down her legacy from generation to generation. Before sowing, what you need is definitely seeds. So how do you get the seeds? Because the waxleaf azalea will produce many seeds when it matures, so during its maturity period, you should specially choose some waxleaf azalea plants that are relatively sturdy and have good growth and development to collect its seeds. After collecting the seeds, they should be dried and kept for sowing around April of the following year. Before sowing, soak the selected seeds in clean water. Then sprinkle the soaked seeds into suitable land, cover them with soil of appropriate thickness, and then apply fertilizer according to the situation.

2. Layering

Select relatively sturdy branches that have been growing for about 3 years, then cover them with a bag or something similar and put them in the soil, and then keep them supplied with water and nutrients.

3. Grafting

Grafting means that the branches selected are different from the branches used for layering. The branches used for grafting are generally new branches, which are inserted into the selected plants for grafting. After insertion, they are wrapped with something and wait for the interface to close.

4. Cuttings

Cuttings are the most commonly used and common method.

1. Select branches. This method is usually carried out around May every year, but not all branches are suitable, so you should choose branches that are relatively thick and have good plant growth and development.

2. Pruning. It is not enough to collect suitable branches and use them for cuttings, but the collected branches must also be processed. First, remove the leaves on the lower half of the stem, and then remove most of the leaves on the upper half, leaving about 4 leaves to ensure growth.

3. Soak. Soak the bottom of the treated branches, but not with clean water, but with medicine that is beneficial to their growth.

4. Cuttings. The last step is cuttings, but cuttings does not mean that you can just insert the branches into the soil, but there are certain requirements. The first requirement is to insert the branch straight into the ground. Then, if it feels not firm enough after insertion, press the soil gently with your hands to ensure it is stable. And you don't have to insert the entire branch into the ground, just about half of its length.
