How to grow purple-leafed Oxalis

How to grow purple-leafed Oxalis

1. Soil

It likes fertile and moist soil, so the breeding soil we choose for it should also have this property. We can choose some relatively fertile soil with certain moisturizing ability. In addition, it should be noted that although it likes moist soil, it is afraid of waterlogging, so we must choose soil with a certain drainage capacity.

2. Temperature

The most suitable environmental temperature for its growth is 16 to 22 degrees. This plant can adapt to the cold winter and remain evergreen in winter above minus five degrees Celsius. However, if the temperature is below minus five degrees Celsius, some of its leaves will wither, but the underground parts will not die, and it will grow new leaves in March of the following year.

But in the hot summer, when the ambient temperature exceeds 35 degrees, its leaves will curl up and its growth rate will slow down, thus entering a dormant state. Therefore, at this time, it is necessary to replenish water to its leaves in time, provide it with shade, and increase ventilation.

3. Sunlight

To grow healthily, light is essential, so we need to grow it in an environment that can provide it with full or half light.

During the peak growth season of spring and autumn, it needs even more light. If the growth environment is too dark at this time, its leaves will become dull, its petioles will become thin, and the plant shape will become scattered. At this time, there is no talk of bursting the pot. But on the other hand, we must also pay attention to shade it in the summer when the light is stronger, otherwise it will get burned.

4. Moisture

During the growth period, we must keep the soil moist. If watering is needed, it is best not to water until the surface of the soil in the pot becomes dry. Once watered, it must be watered thoroughly. In summer, it goes into dormancy and we just need to spray water and keep the soil in the pot slightly moist. When the temperature drops in winter, it is better to keep the plant dry rather than too wet when watering to avoid root rot.
