If you grow chrysanthemums like this in spring, the flowers will be as big as fists, and one pot can instantly become 100 pots!

If you grow chrysanthemums like this in spring, the flowers will be as big as fists, and one pot can instantly become 100 pots!

How to make chrysanthemums bloom bigger and more abundantly, all thanks to these 3 tricks!

The chrysanthemum cultivation technique I will demonstrate today is "single-stem chrysanthemum", which involves thinning out excess flower buds and side branches, leaving only one flower bud on each branch.

1. Thinning buds

Anyone who has grown chrysanthemums knows that a chrysanthemum branch can grow many flower buds. If they are allowed to bloom, the flowers will be small and not beautiful!

Then we need to pick it until only one is left. Generally, the flower bud at the top is the fullest. We can keep the top flower bud and remove the other flower buds on this branch.

First keep two flower buds, and after they have grown for half a month, see which one grows better and keep it. This can avoid the situation where a flower bud accidentally withers and there is no flower to see.

In this way, nutrients are concentrated on one flower, so large flowers can bloom.

Be careful not to break the flower buds when removing them.

2. Pruning too many branches

What are too many branches? Even for branches that are not related to the cultivation of single-stem chrysanthemums, what we need is a strong, disease-free and insect-free thick branch, rather than a thin and weak branch.

I have a simple method. It is recommended to keep 6-8 branches in a 15-20cm flowerpot. Select strong, disease-free and insect-free thick branches in the flowerpot, and cut off all the other branches!

For every thick branch that is retained, the side branches growing on it should also be removed. The reason for doing this is simple: to concentrate the supply of nutrients.

3. Water and fertilizer management

It is not enough to just thin out the buds and prune the branches; it also needs to be combined with water and fertilizer management.

After just pruning the branches, it is necessary to "reduce water and fertilizer", control watering and stop fertilizing. This can control the growth of the above-ground part, benefit the development of the underground part, and prepare sufficient nutrients for future bud formation.

The specific method is that after pruning the branches, you should wait until the leaves begin to wilt before watering, and fertilizing should be stopped this month.

After flower buds appear, you can water it once every 3 days, irrigate the roots with urea once a week, and spray the leaves with potassium dihydrogen phosphate once every half a month.

Stop fertilizing until the flower buds appear and change the watering schedule to once every two days.

Now let’s take a look at a set of comparison pictures. The one above is a single chrysanthemum that is artificially managed, and the one below is a naturally growing one.

Once you master these three steps, it is not difficult to grow beautiful and colorful chrysanthemums.

Spring is the time for cuttings, and skillful cuttings will yield perfect seedlings!

What is the perfect seedling? I personally think that the "foot buds" that grow from the base of the seedlings are the ones that grow the best and bloom the most standardly! If you pay attention to seedling cultivation, you can get more colorful chrysanthemums.

1. First, cut the disease-free and insect-free branches into 5 cm sections, retaining 2-3 leaves.

2. Insert it obliquely into ordinary nutrient soil. Place in a cool place and water as needed.

3. About a month later, a thick bud will emerge at the bottom of the branch. This is the "foot bud" we want.

4. In another ten days, it will take root. After rooting, it can be transplanted into a pot for planting. After planting, the foot buds will grow into branches, and in autumn and winter, flower buds will begin to form. At this time, you can start "thinning buds", "pruning branches" and "reducing water and fertilizer".

That’s all for today!
