How often should you water your gardenia?

How often should you water your gardenia?

1. Habits

This flower likes water. If it grows under water shortage conditions for a long time, it will grow slowly, the leaves will curl and the quality of the flowers will decline.

In addition, it also has certain requirements for the humidity of the surrounding air. If it is lower than 70%, it can directly affect its flowering, and if it is too high, it will also cause its branches to wither and rot.

2. Principles

Based on its growth habits, we need to follow some principles when replenishing it with water.

First of all, watering should be done in a timely manner. Don’t wait until the flower soil is completely dry before you remember to water it. Because there is no water in the completely dry soil for it to absorb, it will be dehydrated, making it difficult for some normal physiological reactions to proceed.

Secondly, do not water too frequently. Although we may hear that this kind of flower will not die no matter how much you water it, this is not true. Because if you add too much water, water will inevitably accumulate in the flower soil, which may cause its root system to rot and then become withered.

Finally, we also need to be careful not to let the air around it become too dry. Generally speaking, the humidity in our home will not reach 70%, and in order to increase this number, we can use a spray bottle and spray some water mist around it. Doing this can ensure that the branches and flowers will not dry up due to the dry environment.

3. How often should I water?

In fact, this needs to change according to the time.

① Spring: Just water it once in the morning every one or two days, but don’t forget to spray it with water at night. Be careful not to spray the flowers, as this will cause them to rot. Remember to ventilate it after adding water.

②In summer: Water should be replenished every day because the weather is too hot and the water will evaporate very quickly. If the frequency of watering is not increased, the flower soil may dry out completely.

③Autumn: It is only necessary to replenish water once every one to three days. The water consumption at this time is not very large, so there is no need to replenish too much.

④Winter: Refill water once every three weeks to one month. At this time, its demand for water is very low, so do not refill it too frequently.

The above is just a general situation. We also need to pay attention to the specific condition of the flower soil before we add water. If it is still wet, we can stop adding water. If it starts to dry out, we can add water.
