How to change the soil and pot of osmanthus

Effects and requirements of changing soil and pots for osmanthus

Sweet osmanthus is also called rock osmanthus. It is an evergreen plant of the Rhinocerotaceae family. Its leaves are oblong and opposite. The main varieties include golden osmanthus, silver osmanthus, red osmanthus, and bay laurel.

The time for repotting osmanthus is from October to March of the following year. The best time is before the spring buds, which is around March. The climate is stable at this time, which is suitable for the normal growth of the plant.

Effect: Because osmanthus has strong growth potential, if the flowerpot is too small, its roots will clump together, which is not conducive to the growth of the plant. If the soil in the flowerpot is compacted, it will contain less nutrients, which is also harmful to its growth. The pot needs to be changed in time.

Requirements: Pay attention to the temperature when repotting. If you repot indoors, make sure the temperature is moderate. It is not resistant to low temperatures, so do not repot if the temperature is low.

How to change the soil and pot of osmanthus

Repotting treatment: Stop watering 2-3 days before repotting. It is recommended to use a blade to draw a circle along the wall of the pot to separate the soil of the plant from the pot. Then turn the pot upside down, pour out the plant, keep the soil at the roots, trim old and rotten roots, apply carbendazim to disinfect the wound, let it dry and wait for replanting.

Prepare the soil: Osmanthus likes fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. You can add leaf mold, peat soil, compost soil, perlite, and river sand to improve the soil's fertility and air permeability.

Planting: Choose a flowerpot of suitable size, put gravel at the bottom of the pot, then put soil on it, place the osmanthus plant in the pot, continue to fill the soil, gently compact the soil and fix the plant.

Maintenance points for osmanthus after changing soil

Watering: After repotting and changing the soil of osmanthus, you can water it thoroughly once, and then reduce the frequency of watering. Wait until the soil is completely dry before watering. If the climate is dry, you can spray water appropriately.

Fertilization: After the osmanthus is repotted and the soil is changed, you do not need to apply fertilizer for the time being, because at this time the demand for nutrients is small and the root system has not yet adapted to the new environment. Normal fertilization can only be applied when it grows new roots.

Pruning: During the growth of osmanthus, it is necessary to prune the overgrown, dense, old, diseased and insect-infested branches and leaves in time to reduce nutrient consumption. It is also necessary to prune the rotten roots to promote better and healthier growth of the plant.

Light: After repotting, it needs to be placed in a semi-shaded place for maintenance. Pay attention to ventilation. It is not suitable for sun exposure at this time. Wait until it adapts to the environment before placing it in a sunny place. The daily light exposure time is 4-6 hours.
