How to deal with orchids after flowering

How to deal with orchids after flowering

1. Pruning

After its flowers wither, the remaining pedicels should be removed first. This can reduce nutrient consumption and leave some nutrients to help it grow after flowering.

Then you can remove the fallen leaves in the pot, because they are likely to contain pests and diseases. Cut the flower off when it withers, and it is best not to let it bear fruit, otherwise it will consume too much fertilizer and affect the growth of new axillary buds.

2. Loosening the soil

All the floral mud should be cleaned up, the roots of dead flowers should be taken out, and then the soil should be loosened appropriately, so that the roots can grow better.

3. Add fertilizer

First, disinfect it, but do not use the same tool repeatedly, otherwise if there are diseased leaves among them, it will cause cross infection. Then disinfect with a bactericidal agent.

Second, add fertilizer to the leaves after seven days, using a smaller amount than usual, and then resume normal fertilization management after a month. You can bury some fertilizer or additives around its pot to replenish the consumed nutrients. Remember not to put too much, otherwise it will cause fertilizer damage.

Finally, if the season is right, you can divide the plants so that they can germinate and grow faster.

4. Lighting

Then you can place it in a well-lit area of the house so that it doesn't grow too tall. Usually, you should be careful not to water too much. Wait until the soil is dry before watering, otherwise the roots will rot quickly.
