Things to note when repotting Clivia

Things to note when repotting Clivia

1. Time to change pots

If you feel that the Clivia is not growing well and has not bloomed for a long time, it is likely that there is a problem with the soil and you need to change the pot. Temperature is very important when repotting, and it is best to do it when the temperature is above fifteen degrees. It is usually chosen in March or April.

2. Prune the roots

Before repotting, be sure to trim the roots. In this way, the Clivia will adapt to the new environment more quickly and grow better in the future. Cut off old, tangled roots, and discard weak ones. Generally, one-third of the roots need to be cut off. If there is root rot, you need to soak it in potassium permanganate for twenty minutes after pruning.

3. Soil preparation

The choice of soil is very important, and it is best to prepare it yourself. You can mix leaf mold, garden soil, river sand, etc. You can also add some sawdust, rotten bark and other materials to enhance the air permeability and drainage of the soil.

4. Whether to replace the basin

The pot can be changed or not, depending on the size of the plant. If the pot is not big enough, get a bigger one. If you still use old pots, you need to disinfect them before potting, such as using carbendazim, or expose them to the sun.

5. Maintenance precautions

After potting, water it thoroughly. Afterwards, place the plant in a cool, well-ventilated place. Keep the surrounding area warm and humid until the plant fully adapts to the new environment.
