How to care for gardenia after flowering

1. Gardenia flowering period

Generally speaking, its flowering period is in spring and summer, specifically from March to July. The exact flowering time will depend on the climate and variety, but there won't be much difference. Normally it blooms only once a year, so the flowering period is usually from late summer to early autumn.

2. How to care for flowers after flowering

1. Pruning: For all plants, pruning after flowering is a very important step, and the same is true for gardenias. The most important task is to cut off the flowers that have already bloomed and faded to prevent them from continuing to consume nutrients and affecting future growth. After cutting off all the dead flowers, you can also trim other unsuitable branches to facilitate it to enter the next growth step. The main targets of pruning are dry, messy, crossed and diseased and insect-infested branches.

2. Light: After flowering, the light should be appropriate and not too dark. This can promote it to accumulate nutrients through photosynthesis and replenish the part consumed during flowering.

3. Fertilizer: Fertilizer can be applied once every two months, specifically slow-release fertilizer or compound fertilizer. After fertilizing, water the plants thoroughly to help them absorb more nutrients and replenish their nutrition.

4. Watering: After flowering, water must be replenished in time. Do not leave it without water for a long time, otherwise the branches will easily dry out.
