How to cultivate carnivorous plants

Carnivorous plant growth conditions

Carnivorous plants like a humid environment, and their water source is mostly rainwater. They prefer to grow in places with sufficient water and acidic environments. They are not resistant to low temperatures and are suitable for growing in environments with good light.

How to grow carnivorous plants

The soil for growing carnivorous plants can be made by mixing peat soil and perlite in a ratio of 2:1 to make a slightly acidic growing soil. Water it once a day to keep the soil moist, and add special fertilizer once every 15 days by pouring it in from the edge of the pot.

Carnivorous Plant Watering

Carnivorous plants are a plant that likes moisture. You need to water it once a day to keep the soil moist. You can put a basin of water at the bottom of the flowerpot to keep the air around the carnivorous plants relatively humid. It is best to use purified water for watering, as tap water contains certain chemical additives.

Fertilizing Carnivorous Plants

There are special fertilizers for carnivorous plants, but the demand for fertilizer is not large. The most appropriate frequency of fertilization is once every 15 days. When fertilizing, keep the fertilizer away from the roots. Its root system is relatively fragile and it is easy to burn the roots. You can pour it along the edge of the pot.

Pest control of carnivorous plants

The common pest of Cordyceps is nematodes, which are attracted by the humus in the soil. Nematodes are divided into ectoparasitic and endoparasitic. Exoparasitic nematodes only eat rotten things, so you can just change the soil in the pot when you find them. Endoparasitic nematodes live in the body of the Venus flytrap and cannot be eradicated. A common disease is soft rot, which can be controlled by spraying carbendazim or methyl thiophanate once a month.

How to grow Cordyceps at home

The growth energy of Carnivorous Plant comes from the organic matter and very small amount of inorganic salts produced by photosynthesis during the day. It can eat insects to supplement nutrients. The maintenance environment must have high humidity because the native environment of Carnivorous Plant is swampy grassland. Therefore, if it is maintained indoors, a high humidity environment must be provided.

Adequate light can make the carnivorous plant grow stronger. It needs at least 4 hours of direct sunlight every day. If the light time is insufficient, it will not only be detrimental to its growth, but in severe cases it may lead to the death of the plant. If there is insufficient sunlight in winter, you can use a fill light.

Precautions for caring for Cordyceps

Carnivorous plants are suitable for growing in warm places. Be careful not to let the temperature be too low. Keep the temperature between 21-35℃ so that it grows faster. The temperature in winter should not be lower than 5℃, otherwise it will temporarily hibernate.
