How to care for peony flowers

Peony flower growing conditions

Peonies are suitable for planting in sandy loam with deep soil, good drainage and fertility. Clay and sandy soil should not be used. Neutral or slightly acidic soil is best. It needs sunlight to grow, but shade should be provided during the flowering period, and the temperature should be appropriately lowered and the humidity increased to extend the viewing period.

How to grow peony flowers

Peonies are highly adaptable to temperature and can tolerate temperatures as high as 40 degrees Celsius and as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius. Some thin fertilizer can be applied when new shoots and leaves grow and the flowers stretch. No fertilizer is needed at other times. To enhance the ornamental value, you can trim the branches and leaves, and trim the remaining flowers after they wither.

Watering Peonies

For daily care of peony flowers, just water them thoroughly when they are completely dry. Generally, as long as there are cracks of varying sizes in the soil in the flowerpot, it means it is completely dry. Before watering the peony flowers, you can loosen the soil first to seal all the cracks, and then water them several times. Observe the small holes under the flowerpot. If any water remains, it means it is thoroughly watered.

Peony flower fertilization

Peonies do not require much fertilizer and only need to be applied four times a year, mainly once in March, twice from May to July, and once in November and December. Through reasonable fertilization, as long as the nutrients can keep up, the ornamental effect will be excellent.

Peony flower pests and diseases

A common disease of peony is white rot. After the onset of the disease, the diseased plants should be promptly pruned out and sprayed with carbendazim solution regularly. If rust occurs, it is difficult to eradicate it at one time, so you can use Zineb or lime sulfur mixture to spray continuously for 3-4 times.

How to grow peony flowers at home

Peonies do not need to be watered frequently. Before each watering, you can observe the condition of the plant and add some water in an appropriate amount. You just need to keep the soil in the pot moist. It is light-loving, so it is necessary to give it sufficient light maintenance on a daily basis, otherwise it will cause the flowering period to be delayed. It is suitable for planting in loose soil with good air permeability and drainage.

Precautions for peony flower care

Peonies have deep roots and can absorb water and nutrients from deep below. Generally, you can stop watering after the surface soil is dry, but it cannot be too dry, which will affect its normal growth and cause the color of the flowers to fade, and the flowers to be smaller and fewer.
