How to propagate Michelia scabra

Cuttings

Time of choice

This method of reproduction is very simple and efficient, so there are still many flower lovers who choose this method. The best time to do this is after the flowers have faded, which is basically June. At this time, the temperature has not risen very high, which is more suitable for plant growth and wound healing.

Selection of branches

You should choose relatively strong branches. This point needs no explanation. If you choose branches that have been infected with diseases and insects, it will definitely affect future growth. Secondly, it is best to choose 2-year-old branches. Branches that are too tender have limited survival ability and will not be as strong as 2-year-old branches in the future.

Method of operation

Cut the branches to 10cm long, leaving only two or three leaves on the top. Disinfect them first, then apply rooting powder. After inserting them, pay attention to maintaining humidity. It will take about 40-50 days for them to take root. Pay attention to moisturizing and shading when transplanting.

Layering

Time of choice

This can be done a little earlier, perhaps in early May. In this way, the roots will grow in early July and can be transplanted in mid-September. However, if you want to move it out for planting, you should choose March or April, as the temperature is more suitable during this period.

Method of operation

Choose an appropriate part that can be ring-barked, then cover the wound with the prepared soil with plastic film, and remember to water it regularly to ensure sufficient water. When the newly grown roots reach a certain number, you can take them down and plant them. But if the number of roots is not enough, try to wait until there are more before doing so, which will be beneficial to the survival of the new plants.

Well, these are the two methods above, go and try them out.
