Environmental conditions and characteristics of asparagus growth

Asparagus Growth Environmental Conditions and Requirements

Asparagus is native to the eastern coast of the Mediterranean and has a very long history of cultivation in my country. The plant has good adaptability and can produce seeds from the subarctic to the subtropical zones, but it is most suitable for planting in areas with distinct four seasons.

Asparagus growing temperature

The optimum growth temperature of asparagus is 25-30℃. The germination temperature is 5℃. The plant has good cold resistance and can safely survive the winter in an environment of -33℃ in the high cold zone.

Asparagus growing humidity

The growth of asparagus requires a certain humidity, the soil humidity should be between 65%-80%, and the air humidity for storing asparagus should be around 90%-95%.

Asparagus growing soil

Asparagus prefers loose, deep soil with good water and fertilizer retention. The pH value of the soil should be between 5.3-7, and the salt content of the soil should not exceed 0.2%, otherwise it will cause the plant's absorbing roots to shrink.

Asparagus growth cycle and process

The lifespan of asparagus can be as long as 20 years. It goes through two stages: growth and dormancy. The growth period starts in spring when young stems begin to emerge and grow. The dormancy period is in autumn and winter when all the above-ground parts will die.
