How to grow lotus and what to pay attention to

Lotus growth habits

Lotus is commonly found in calm shallow water, lakes, swamps and ponds. It is very sensitive to water. If there is no water for 3 hours in summer, the leaves will wilt. If there is no water for a day, the lotus leaf edges will burn and the flower buds will wither. A full light environment needs to be maintained during the growth period, and the suitable growth temperature is above 16 degrees.

Light requirements: Lotus grows best in a sunny and ventilated location. Lotus cultivation requires at least 7 hours of light per day. If the light time is not enough, the flowering period will be shortened or it may not bloom. Therefore, it is best to maintain it indoors in spring, autumn and winter. It can be slightly shaded in summer, but it should also be placed in a location with scattered light.

Lotus cultivation method

It is best to use river or lake water for lotus, provide a full-light environment, and keep the temperature between 22 and 32 degrees. Use soil rich in humus and pay attention to air circulation. Choose a water-retaining and durable container, and control the water depth. In addition, it mainly reproduces by seeds or underground stems.

Watering the lotus: The lotus is an aquatic plant, so it needs to be provided with sufficient water. It is not just about watering it, but also about keeping it growing in water. Water it every 1-2 days in spring and autumn, water it every day in summer to maintain the original water level, and control watering in winter.

Fertilizing lotus: When planting lotus, you can apply some base fertilizer. During the growth period, add nutrient solution when changing water. Also, apply top dressing on the leaves to promote leaf growth.

Lotus pruning: If you find yellow and rotten leaves, or aging leaves on the lotus, you need to prune them in time to avoid affecting the cleanliness of the water and the appearance of bacteria. If the branches are too high, you need to top them to control the height, and also cut off the extra side buds.

Lotus care precautions

Potted lotus must be exposed to full sunlight during the maintenance process. It is difficult to achieve this condition in the indoor environment. Therefore, it is best to move it indoors for maintenance, so that the flowers will bloom more vigorously and be more ornamental.
