Does mint prefer shade or sun?

Does mint prefer shade or sun?

Mint is easy to grow and has strong adaptability. It is completely fine to grow it at home. Mint is a sun-loving plant. As a long-day crop, it can only grow well if the light time is long enough. If the light is insufficient, it will not only affect its growth, but also reduce the accumulation of peppermint oil and menthol.

Does mint like the sun?

Mint likes sunshine. If it is in the bud and flowering stage, it needs sufficient sunshine and dry weather. Sufficient sunshine can promote its flowering.

Mint can be exposed to the sun in the summer. Short-term exposure to the sun has little effect on mint. If the sun is too high, it will burn the leaves and cause them to wither. At this time, it should be shaded in time.

Is mint shade tolerant?

Mint can tolerate short periods of shade, but it cannot be grown in the shade for a long time, otherwise it will be detrimental to the synthesis of substances such as peppermint oil, and it will lose its own value.

Mint growing environment

Mint is not very demanding on the soil for its growth and can grow in general soil. The most suitable soil pH is 5.5~6.5. The most suitable temperature for mint growth is around 20~30°, and it can withstand temperatures as low as minus 15 degrees Celsius.

Mint likes water and moisture. Mint needs more water in the early and middle stages, especially in the early growth stage when the root system has not yet formed. Generally, water is poured once every 15 days. From seedling to harvest, water is poured 4-5 times. After closing the row, water should be poured lightly to prevent the stems and leaves from growing wildly, lodging, causing the lower leaves to fall off, and reducing the yield. Stop watering 20-25 days before harvest.
