How to propagate water bamboo and what to pay attention to

Water bamboo propagation method

Water bamboo can generally be propagated by division and cuttings, but can also be propagated by sowing, so its seeds can be propagated. Generally speaking, its rooting speed by cuttings is the fastest, and new roots can usually grow after more than 20 days of cuttings.

Water bamboo breeding time

It is generally more appropriate to choose March to April in spring every year for water bamboo to reproduce. This is the period of vigorous growth of the plant, and the climate is also more suitable, so the survival rate of reproduction is very high.

Water bamboo propagation method

Water bamboo division propagation

Take out the overgrown water bamboo from the pot and cut it into several clumps. After its wounds have dried, you can pot them up separately and plant them as you like. It is very easy to keep them alive.

Water bamboo cutting propagation

Select the stems with bracts on the water bamboo, cut off half of the whorled leaves, and then wait until the wound is dry before directly inserting it into a mixed culture soil of sand or vermiculite. Water it thoroughly and then place it in a shaded and cool place for maintenance.

Water bamboo seed propagation

Water bamboo seeds are picked when they are mature, dried and stored. In March to April of the following spring, the seeds are sown on the prepared culture soil, flattened, covered with a thin layer of soil, watered and covered with glass.

Water bamboo breeding precautions

When water bamboo is propagated hydroponically, it has relatively high requirements for water quality. It is best to use mineral water and purified water for propagation. If you want to use tap water, you need to pay attention to let it settle before use.
