What are the cultivation methods and precautions of Dieffenbachia

How to cultivate Dieffenbachia

Dieffenbachia is a plant of the Araceae family and the genus Dieffenbachia. It is native to Colombia, Brazil and other places. The plant is sturdy and upright, and is about 1 meter tall when potted. The main propagation methods include tissue culture, top cutting and stem cutting.

In a suitable environment, the Dieffenbachia can grow all year round and grow very fast. A small seedling in spring can grow into a graceful Dieffenbachia after a summer of growth. The two-year-old plants can bloom. The peak growth period is from July to October. The two-year-old plants can bloom. Generally, the Dieffenbachia will not set seeds.

temperature

Dieffenbachia prefers high temperature, high humidity and semi-shady environment. It is suitable to be placed in a bright and ventilated place indoors. The suitable growth temperature is between 20-30 degrees. It is resistant to high temperatures and can survive at room temperature up to 40 degrees. It is not cold-resistant and will stop growing if the temperature is below 13 degrees. It needs to be brought indoors for maintenance and the room temperature should be kept at 6-8 degrees.

illumination

The royal evergreen likes an environment with plenty of sunlight and cannot tolerate strong light. If the light is too strong, it will burn the leaves or even cause them to burn. If there is insufficient light, the growth will be slow and the leaves will be dull. Therefore, it is best to cultivate it in an environment with scattered light.

soil

Dieffenbachia likes fertile, slightly acidic soil with good air permeability and water retention. Use small pots for small seedlings, and change the pots to slightly larger ones every year according to the growth of the plants to meet the needs of their vigorous growth. It is best to renew the pots every 2 to 3 years, usually in April and May. Be careful not to damage the plants.

Watering

Dieffenbachia has a certain degree of drought resistance and can store a large amount of water. It will not dry out even if it is not watered for several days. Normally, it is sufficient to keep the soil slightly moist. In winter, when the temperature is below 5 degrees, control watering and do not make the soil in the pot too wet, otherwise the leaves will turn yellow.

Fertilization

Dieffenbachia is relatively resistant to fertilizer. It is necessary to apply thin fertilizers frequently during the growth period, but the application of nitrogen fertilizers must be controlled to prevent the colored patterns on the leaves from fading and affecting the appearance. For young plants, liquid fertilizers mainly composed of nitrogen fertilizers can be applied once every 15 days. For adult plants, fertilization should be controlled to prevent excessive growth. Generally, compound fertilizers can be applied once a month.

prune

During the growth period of the Dieffenbachia, dense branches, overgrown branches, old branches, and diseased branches need to be pruned off to reduce nutrient consumption. In order to improve the ornamental value, unsightly branches can be pruned off. The pruning time is mainly in winter and spring.

Precautions for breeding of Dieffenbachia

If the potting soil is too wet for a long time, the roots of the Dieffenbachia will easily turn black and rot. If it is not managed well, the Dieffenbachia will be easily harmed by aphids, scale insects, etc., and prevention and control should be carried out early. Ometamethoate can be used to spray.
