Celery's growing environment and growing conditions

Celery Growth Environment and Conditions

Celery is grown in a large area in China. It has a shallow root system and is not drought-tolerant. It is suitable for soilless cultivation or seedling transplanting. It is best planted in fertile, loose, well-ventilated soil with strong water and fertilizer retention capabilities.

Celery Growing Conditions

Celery is suitable for planting on loose, fertile, humus-rich sticky soil. Sandy soil is prone to water and fertilizer shortage, leading to hollow and rotten heart. The pH value of the soil should be maintained at around 6.5. In addition, the soil should be comprehensive in nutrients. If there is a lack of fertilizer, base fertilizer can be applied to ensure the normal growth of celery.

Celery Growth Temperature

The suitable germination temperature of celery is 15-20 degrees. Below 15 degrees or above 25 degrees will delay germination or reduce the germination rate. Generally, it will germinate in 7-10 days. During the period of vigorous vegetative growth, the temperature is best controlled at 15-20 degrees. Mature celery plants can withstand low temperatures of -7 to -10 degrees Celsius.

Celery growth process

The growth process of celery mainly includes the germination stage, seedling stage, leaf cluster growth stage and heart leaf hypertrophy stage. It takes half a month from seed germination to the appearance of the first true leaf. It takes 40-60 days from the appearance of the first true leaf to the unfolding of 4-5 true leaves. When 4-5 true leaves of celery unfold and the heart leaves are in place, the plant height is 40 cm. It is the right time to harvest when most of the heart leaves are in place.

Celery Planting Time and Method

Celery can be planted all year round, and the place chosen should have a cool climate. Celery is suitable for planting in fertile, loose, well-drained soil. The soil should be renovated in advance, the seeds should be soaked in water for two days, then taken out of the water, and it will germinate in 3-4 days, and then sown in the field.
