The growing environment and local conditions of chestnuts

Chestnut Growth Environment and Conditions

The production areas of Tianjin sweet chestnuts are concentrated in Xiaogang and Xiaoying townships in Ji County. In fact, there are also a large number of chestnut trees growing in the mountainous areas of Beijing, Tangshan, Chengde and other places. The quality is very good. Because the chestnuts produced in these areas were exported through Tianjin in the past, they are also called Tianjin sweet chestnuts. They are mainly exported to Japan, Australia, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau and other places.

Chestnut Growing Conditions

Chestnuts prefer an environment with plenty of sunlight. If the maintenance environment is dark, the branches will die or no fruit will be produced. They have strong adaptability to soil, but prefer fertile, moist, well-drained sandy or loam. They are sensitive to soil pH, and the pH value should be between 5-6. They are not tolerant of waterlogging.

Chestnut Growth Temperature

Chestnuts prefer a warm growing environment. The average temperature suitable for chestnuts is between 13.7 and 14.1 degrees, which is conducive to their germination, growth, flowering and fruiting.

The growth process of chestnut

The opening of chestnut male flowers mainly includes four stages: filament exposure, filament straightening, anther dehiscence and filament withering. The whole flowering process takes about half a month. Mid-June is the peak flowering period. In early July, the ovary has 16 smaller white ovules arranged in a circle on its upper part. Late July is the young embryo development period. In mid-to-early August, the weight of the young embryo is less than 1 gram, and the growth rate is fastest before maturity.

Chestnut planting time and method

1. It is best to sow chestnut seedlings in spring and autumn. It has strict requirements on the soil. It is necessary to analyze the soil pH and the content of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, organic matter and trace elements in advance. It is advisable to choose loose, fertile, well-drained sandy loam, then rake the soil flat and remove weeds and stones.

2. From early November to February of the following year, choose mature and plump seeds for sowing. Disinfect the seeds first, then place them in gibberellin for 1 hour to germinate. Dig a 10 cm deep hole in the center of the pit, sow 10-15 seeds in each hole, cover with soil and cover with weeds.
