The growing environment and local conditions of plum trees

Plum Tree Growth Environment and Conditions

The plum tree prefers an environment with plenty of sunlight, but is also slightly shade-tolerant and cold-resistant. It is suitable for growing in a warm and humid environment. It was originally distributed in Central Asia and the Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang, China. Now it is planted in many places. It is widely planted in the southern region, and there are wild species in the western region.

Plum Tree Growing Conditions

The plum tree has a strong adaptability to the environment. As long as the soil is relatively deep and has some fertility, it can be planted in any kind of soil. It has relatively high requirements for the humidity of the soil and the surrounding air, and is not tolerant of waterlogging. If the drainage of the orchard is not good, the roots will easily rot. It is best to plant it in a place with a deep soil layer, good air permeability and good drainage.

Plum tree growth temperature

The temperature requirements for plum trees at different stages are also different. The suitable temperature for plum trees during the flowering period is 12 to 16°C, the harmful low temperature during the bud period is -1.1°C, the flowering period is -0.5 to -2.2°C, the young fruit period is -0.5 to -2.2°C, and the suitable temperature for pollen germination is 20 to 25°C.

Growth process of plum tree

After the plum trees are sown in spring, they will go through four growth stages: seed germination, leaf growth, flower bud growth and fruiting. If the plants do not have seeds, they can only be propagated by division and cuttings, so their process is division, seedling growth, flowering and fruiting.

When and how to plant plum trees

Plum trees are best planted in spring and autumn. Before planting, choose seedlings with intact and strong root systems, full buds, and no quarantine objects and serious diseases and pests. Prepare the soil in advance and apply sufficient base fertilizer, such as compost, manure, crop straw, green manure, fallen leaves, etc. The general plant spacing is 2.5 meters x 4 meters.
