Why do the leaves of Kalanchoe become soft and curled?

Why do the leaves of Kalanchoe become soft and curled?

1. Lack of light

Insufficient light is one of the common reasons. Kalanchoe itself is a light-loving plant and needs sufficient sunlight every day, but it should be properly shaded in summer to avoid burning the leaves.

2. Lack of water

Lack of water is also one of the main reasons why the leaves of Kalanchoe become soft and curled. Although it has good drought resistance, it cannot be without water for a long time. Generally, it needs to be watered every 2-3 days. You can water more frequently in the summer and less frequently in the winter when it is dormant.

3. Lack of nutrients

If there is no nutrient supplement in the potting soil for a long time, it will inevitably lead to poor growth momentum of the plant and the leaves will become soft and curled. The best solution in this case is to apply fertilizer in time, but the amount of fertilizer at a single time should not be too much. It is sufficient to apply thin liquid fertilizer once every half a month.

4. Root rot

Root rot is the most difficult to detect and treat of the several causes of soft leaves. It is usually caused by excessive watering and application of concentrated fertilizer. Excessive watering will prevent the roots from breathing, while excessive fertilization will burn the roots. If you find water stagnating in the pot, you should drain it out in time and take the plant out of the pot to observe whether the roots are rotten. If so, prune them. If there is too much fertilizer, you can rinse the potting soil first to wash away the excess fertilizer, and then cut the roots.

5. Normal phenomenon

After repotting and changing the soil, the leaves of the Kalanchoe may become soft and curled. This is because the plant has not yet adapted to the new pot and soil, and the root growth and water absorption capacity are inhibited. This situation can be improved by slowly cultivating it.
