How to prune Luohan bamboo

When to prune Luohan bamboo

When pruning Podocarpus, it is generally best to do it in the morning in sunny weather, so that the wound at the pruning site can heal quickly.

There are two methods of propagating Podocarpus argentea: division and cuttings. Division is the most convenient and most commonly used. You only need to remove the plant from the pot, divide it into several clumps, and plant them in separate pots. Cuttings are the most common method. Choose a tender stalk as a cutting, insert it into the culture soil, and new buds will sprout.

Bamboo pruning

Trim the withered branches and leaves of the bamboo. There is no use in keeping those withered branches and leaves. They can also easily block the sunlight, causing the temperature between the bamboos to be too high. After pruning, they need to be cleaned up in time.

It is necessary to prune the side branches of the Podocarpus, especially those that are particularly long, which can be pruned directly, but only the lowest end needs to be pruned.

Sometimes the branches and leaves of Podocarpus rohantiana are particularly dense, and those densely packed areas need to be pruned, otherwise a large number of leaves will turn yellow.

Bamboo pruning and shaping

Shorten the bamboo shoots that are too long, and cut off those branches that grow in the wrong position, are too dense, have long nodes and flat belly, and other branches that affect the appearance. This will not only encourage the growth of side branches, but also make the bamboo bonsai more ornamental.

In order to highlight the luxuriant and graceful appearance of the bamboo, the side branches near the base should be cut off. Moreover, if new buds emerge after the bamboo has been shaped, they should be cut off in time to maintain its original shape.

If the bamboo is properly watered and fertilized, and has suitable light and temperature, it will grow very fast, so excess branches should be pruned in time to prevent them from absorbing too much nutrients; secondly, the new branches should also be decided based on their shape; finally, those branches that are thin, have long nodes, and affect the shape should also be cut off in time.

Things to note when pruning Luohan bamboo

When pruning Luohan bamboo, make sure there are no sharp edges on the wound, and take proper care of it in the later stage to avoid the wound from being exposed to rain, otherwise it will easily cause infection.
