Dendrobium division time

Dendrobium is an orchid plant, mainly growing in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia. Common varieties include Huoshan Dendrobium, Nobile Dendrobium, Dendrobium densiflorum, Dendrobium chrysotoxum, Dendrobium butterfly and a large number of hybrid excellent species. Propagation by division should be carried out in conjunction with repotting in spring.

Dendrobium division propagation method

The Dendrobiums growing together can be separated and planted individually, or they can be cut from the base of the old root cluster. Be careful not to damage the root system, otherwise it will affect the later growth.

Steps for dividing Dendrobium

1. After the flowering period of Dendrobium is over, the mother plant can be poured out of the pot. Generally, one pot can be divided into 2-3 clusters, each cluster should have 3-4 old branches, which is beneficial to growth and flowering.

2. Wash the roots of Dendrobium, place them in a well-ventilated place to dry, and plant them in a pot with good air permeability. The substrate can be prepared by mixing fern roots, peat moss, pine bark, and coarse river sand with good drainage. Do not use fertile and heavy mixed soil.

3. The hole at the bottom of the pot should be slightly larger. Some charcoal and expanded clay can be placed at the bottom to increase drainage. After planting, cover the surface of the pot with green cloud grass to moisturize and clean the pot. After watering it thoroughly, maintain it in a semi-shaded place.

Potted Dendrobium is suitable for planting in well-drained, loose and fertile soil. Peat moss, fern roots, bark blocks and charcoal can be used, and tiles or broken bricks should be placed at the bottom of the pot so that the roots can resume growth faster. During maintenance, sufficient light needs to be provided and ventilation should be maintained, which is more conducive to the growth and flowering of Dendrobium.
