Sweet potato planting time

Sweet potato is the tuberous root of the yam bean, a vine plant of the legume family. It is planted in both the north and south of China and is generally sown between April and May each spring. The best time is mid-May, when the temperature is basically stable at 15 to 20 degrees. Under this condition, sweet potatoes can grow quickly.

Sweet potato sowing method

1. When choosing seeds, we usually choose large sweet potatoes. First, we observe whether the surface is damaged or bitten by insects, mice and other animals. If not, then continue to see how many buds grow out of the sweet potatoes and whether their vitality is strong. That's basically it.

2. When sowing, soak the sweet potato seed potatoes in a professional solvent for about 10 minutes. This can effectively prevent certain diseases and prevent the seed potatoes from being eaten by pests before germination. Then you can plant and sow them.

3. After planting, the first fertilization must be carried out. Fertilization is mainly to make the new sweet potato seedlings grow new roots, so organic fertilizer is generally used. The second fertilization is after the sweet potatoes survive. Because of the different growth, it looks uneven. This time it is mainly for uniform seedlings, usually urea is used. The third fertilization is also urea, and the last time is potassium fertilizer.

4. In order to facilitate the harvest later, we must plant the sweet potato seedlings in the field and clear the sweet potato vines in the field in one direction so that they grow in one direction so that they can be harvested in time.

Sweet potato planting tips

Before planting sweet potatoes, the soil needs to be renovated, some base fertilizer needs to be applied, and it needs to be watered thoroughly to keep the soil moist. After planting the sweet potatoes, the soil needs to be compacted to maintain soil moisture. If pests appear during the growth period, it will affect the photosynthesis of the plants. Rats usually like to eat sweet potatoes in the fields, so it is best to put some medicine to control voles to eliminate the pests.

Sweet potatoes ripe for harvest

Sweet potatoes are generally picked and harvested in October every year, but the harvest time will be different if the planting time is different. However, October is the best harvest period, and the yield of spring potatoes per mu can reach 2,000 to 3,000 kilograms.
