How to prune white pine branches

White pine is an evergreen tree species that can be pruned all year round for the purpose of shaping and beauty.

1. Bud stripping : White pine can be stripped in the early stage of branch sprouting in spring. You can directly pinch off the useless branches and buds with your hands, leaving the useful ones, and the distribution of branches and buds should be balanced.

2. Remove suckers : When the branches of white pine have not yet become lignified, you can trim off the useless young branches on the trunk, but do not damage the bark.

3. Thinning branches : Prune useless branches in time, such as dense branches, sick and weak branches, old and dead branches, overgrown branches or crossed branches, to increase ventilation and light transmission of the plant.

Whitebark Pine Pruning Tips

White pine needs to be pruned in time to remove diseased and insect-infested branches, twigs, crossed branches, etc. to make the plant more beautiful. Some old roots can also be removed to allow new roots to grow.

If the main branches of the white pine are too long, they can be pruned. During the growth period, they can be pinched to remove the tender branches at the tips to promote the growth of side branches.

White pine pruning precautions

The branches left after cutting off the white pine should have leaves, especially the buds of the branches and leaves should have leaves, otherwise the cut ends will easily shrink or even have dead branches, which will be difficult to recover.
