Methods and precautions for propagation of money tree by cuttings

Time for cutting of fortune tree

The money tree is a potted plant of the evergreen small tree of the Bombacaceae family. The money tree can be propagated by sowing or cuttings, and the seeds should be sown immediately after harvesting.

The best time to take cuttings of the Money Tree is from May to June. The temperature at this time is suitable for the germination of the root system. It is easy to take root after planting, which is also very beneficial for later growth.

How to take cuttings of fortune tree

1. Cuttings: Choose strong, pest-free, and excellent-quality semi-lignified branches of the current year's lucky tree. Each cutting should have two palm leaves. It is best to cut them in a windless morning or on a cloudy day. The length should be 6 to 7 cm, the lower incision should be horseshoe-shaped, and the incision should be smooth.

2. Before grafting the money tree, soak the branches in rooting liquid for 20 to 24 hours, then rinse them with clean water, use a small wooden stick to make holes in the soil, and insert the branches into the holes. The grafting depth is generally 3-5 cm. Water thoroughly once, cover with plastic sheeting, and compact the soil around.

Things to note when taking cuttings of the fortune tree

The best choice for the seedling bed for money tree cuttings is sandy loam with deep soil, fertility, sheltered from the wind and facing the sun, and good drainage. It should be trimmed in advance, with 2-3 cm thick gravel on the lower layer, and 10-15 cm thick fresh river sand and slag mixed in a ratio of 2:1 as a matrix sand. The moisture should be such that it can be formed into a ball when squeezed in the hand, but will fall apart when let go. It is also necessary to do some disinfection to eliminate pests and diseases.
