Can cherry trees be planted in Guangxi?

Can cherry trees be grown in Guangxi?

Guangxi is a region suitable for growing cherries. The annual rainfall in Guangxi is generally between 700 and 1000 mm, and the average annual temperature is between 15 and 16 degrees Celsius, which is in line with the growth conditions of cherries. Therefore, there is no problem in growing cherries.

The roots of Chinese cherries are distributed vertically and are generally concentrated in the soil layer about 20 centimeters deep. Cherry trees have been introduced in Shandong, Liaoning, Henan, Hubei, Sichuan, Shanxi and other places in my country. Guangxi is suitable for growing "Jiangnan Red", which can be said to be the first variety suitable for planting in southern regions.

Cherry tree planting technology in Guangxi

1. Lighting

Cherries are light-loving tree species, especially sweet cherries, followed by sour cherries and hairy cherries. Chinese cherries are relatively shade-tolerant. When the light conditions are good, the trees are strong, the fruit branches have a long life, the flower buds are full, the fruit set rate is high, the fruits mature early, the color is good, the sugar content is high, and the sour taste is less, and they are deeply loved by the people.

2. Temperature

Cherries are accustomed to a relatively cool and dry climate. The lowest temperature in winter cannot be lower than -20℃. Too low a temperature will cause longitudinal cracks in large branches and gum flow. Other flower buds are susceptible to frost damage. If the temperature drops below -3℃ during the flowering period, the flowers will be damaged by frost. Therefore, during the cherry flowering period, it is not suitable to be cultivated in areas with temperature changes.

3. Watering

Cherries are very sensitive to water conditions and are neither drought-resistant nor water-resistant. China's cherry cultivation areas, with the exception of the southern provinces with abundant rainfall, mostly choose areas in the north with a relatively humid microclimate on hillsides and valleys to cultivate them. This will ensure that cherries have more and sweeter fruits.

4. Soil

Sweet cherries are suitable for cultivation on sandy loam or gravel loam with deep soil, loose soil, good air permeability and strong water retention capacity, while sour cherries are just the opposite.
